With ten hours of campaign missions and side quests galore, Stellar Wanderer offers a decent amount of content for a free to play game, if a slightly repetitive play style. Players choose a style of ship and are then let loose into the universe. Gameplay consists of space battles between ships, travelling to distance points and gathering resources for later trading. The plot is serviceable enough and a ramping difficult keeps the tension high but a lack of different missions can become somewhat tiresome. The free version of Stellar Wanderer is also littered with ads which break up gameplay between warps, making the premium unlock necessary for extended play. Despite these issues, the game does a solid job of creating the atmosphere of space exploration. Creating an open world which feels real and full of surprises is a challenge which even the very best developers struggle with, and so this mobile title does an admirable job for the task in hand.
For the fans
Stellar Wanderer is an uneven game. Some parts are exciting and challenging while others are dull. The space theme is handled well and will please fans of futuristic space travel for the story missions at least.
